Solar & Battery Storage

Abt Electronics added a 100,000 sq. ft. warehouse in 2015 and seized the opportunity to install a large solar array plus battery storage system (ESS). Solar energy augments their other green initiatives which include LED and natural lighting with skylights. The battery system installed in 2017 provides a source of revenue via grid services called ‘frequency regulation’ and provides backup power in the case of grid outage.

In 2022, our sister company Continental Electric completed a brand new Abt Electronics warehouse that would streamline their shipping and receiving operations. Once construction was complete, the new rooftop array added another solar installation to the growing number of commercial solar projects found in Chicago’s Northwest Suburbs. 

This 1.5MW array expands an already impressive rooftop pv install with increased power resiliency and independence. The project faced several scheduling challenges from permitting, to material availability, seasonal weather, and utility interconnection work.  Our team and the client were able to remain flexible through these hurdles, and stayed focused with our eyes on the prize to bring this beauty to successful completion.
