October is National Fire Safety Month, a reminder of how critical prevention and preparedness are across every stage of a project. For our Solar Operations + Maintenance (O+M) department and for our installation teams in the field, fire safety isn’t a seasonal focus. It’s part of the quality and care built into every solar system we design, install, and maintain.

Fire Safety in Solar Projects: Start-to-Finish

While solar PV systems are inherently safe, their complexity means that fire safety depends on precision at every step. From the first conduit run to the final inspection, both installation teams and O+M crews play a role in ensuring systems operate reliably for decades.

  • During installation: Proper wire management, torquing, grounding, and labeling are essential. Our QA/QC process verifies each connection and component before a system is energized.
  • During operation: O+M inspections and preventive maintenance identify risks early, including loose connections, degraded insulation, or inverter faults that could escalate if unchecked.
  • During emergency response: Our teams are trained to quickly de-energize systems and coordinate with local fire departments to provide safe access.

QA/QC as a Fire Safety Foundation

A strong Quality Assurance / Quality Control program is one of the most effective fire prevention measures. Our QA/QC process ensures:

  • Every component is installed to spec and meets manufacturer and code requirements.
  • Infrared thermal scans detect potential hotspots before commissioning.
  • Documentation and photos verify installation integrity for owners and insurers.
  • Systems are commissioned with a detailed safety review to set the standard for ongoing O+M.

By embedding QA/QC into the installation process, we reduce risks not just at start-up but across the entire lifecycle of the system.

O+M: Protecting Performance and People

For systems already in operation, our O+M department provides the vigilance that keeps assets safe and productive:

  • Preventive inspections to catch issues early.
  • Thermal imaging and string-level monitoring to flag hotspots or anomalies.
  • Ongoing training in NFPA codes, OSHA standards, and fire response procedures.
  • Partnership with local fire services to ensure they understand the layout and shutdown points of each site.

Safety + Sustainability

Fire safety is more than compliance. It is about trust, reliability, and long-term value. For developers, owners, and operators, knowing that your project was built with rigorous QA/QC and is maintained with safety-first O+M practices means confidence in both performance and protection.

This Fire Safety Month, we’re proud to recognize the daily efforts of our installers and O+M teams who make safety a cornerstone of every project. Our focus is on delivering renewable energy projects and ensuring they are done safely.
